Last week during one of my networking meeting we had a new visitor join for the day. And about once a month or so we’ll do a session where we discuss what’s working and talk about the challenges we each face.
And this new visitor let’s call him Joe, every time we went over a challenge to discuss and one of the members shared a solution or an idea to overcome it, joe would oppose it and would put it down, and he kept doing this over and over again and most times without even providing a solution to the problem… It got me thinking that Joe had what I call a “know it all complex”
You see throughout the years and I’ve been there myself… we push things, we fail and succeed. We become confident, maybe a little too confident. We start to know a lot … maybe everything … becoming less approachable, less inviting, creating situations where people are afraid to tell us the truth. Feedback stops, bad habits settle in. We drain others and get in the way of making good things happen.
I want to remind you this week of your responsibility to others and to model the behavior you want to see and to recognize when Joe creeps in your behavior.
Have a great week everyone and I’ll chat with you soon.
